Houston, Fort Worth, And El Paso. OH MY!
Hello Dreamscape Explorers and happy June!
I hope you had a good May. Mine was, I think, my busiest month yet. I got to spend a lot of time with my family and friends, create personal works, had a couple of artist talks, and did a public arts project in Fort Worth. Oh and I also got into a show in El Paso TX. Which means I've now had art in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Florida, Fort Worth, and El Paso! I just think that's just so cool, and WILL to continue to add new places to this list.
Speaking of cool, I painted a large instillation while in Fort Worth. The project was to transform a 3-foot diameter soccer ball sculpture into a unique, original work of art. The sculptures are displayed across the Sundance Square campus as part of a public-facing installation. Put together by Sundance Square and their artists in residence Sari Shryack and Amy Jenkins. It was a great experience from start to finish, and I’m incredibly happy with how my soccer ball turned out. If you want to see some of my process have a vlog on my youtube channel that takes you through the creation of this piece and my week in Fort Worth. If you want to check it out its linked HERE.
Soccer Ball Artist Statement: “A Saturday Morning Before A Soccer Game” is inspired by my childhood ritual of watching Spongebob in the mornings before my soccer games. The colours are guided by the colour story of Bikini Bottom and its citizens. As seen in my personal style of Abstract Expressionism that dips into Surrealism the influence of Spongebob can be seen within my work through the movement and shapes that are motifs within my own world building. This piece embodies the child-like joy of eating breakfast and watching your favorite show while the nerves and excitement build as the time of the soccer game approaches. This cartoon was my favorite show growing up and till this day has a special place in my heart.
As for June’s upcoming shows and events there is the show in El Paso at The International Museum Of Art called “Upon A Blank Canvas”. The show opens June 13th with the reception from 2-4pm. And the show will be up for viewing until July 3rd. Then this is the final month of “Abstraction” at Rado Market. If you haven't gotten to see the show yet, highly recommend you check it out before the end of the month. Keep an eye out for possible closing reception details on my instagram.
Okay, well that's all the updates I have for you this letter. I hope you have a great day and make the most out of this month.
Til next time,
BYE!!!
